The dragonriders of the Weyr have a special commitment to PernMUSH - they have bonded with dragon for the entire life of their character or dragon, and demonstrated their knowledge of Pern and their desire to contribute to Igen Weyr in particular.
This is a brief list of some information and policies concerning riders at Igen Weyr.
ACTIVITY
Inactive rider characters are subject to Wizard idle-desting like any other established characters. When a rider is removed from the database due to inactivity, the character is not 'dead' but rather becomes a part of the background Weyr - alive, but not rped. If you want to die, you must inform the Weyrleaders in advance. Inactive riders will be transferred to the idle wing after seven weeks.
If you return from inactivity and wish to reclaim your character, you need to contact the Weyrleaders with your dragon name, color and DB number. We will set you back up as soon as possible.
Igen Weyr does not recycle characters (that is, give your character to a new player). If you personally wish to recycle your character, you should let the Weyrleaders know, and the new player should contact the Weyrleaders so that training can be provided in necessary.
BEHAVIOUR
We expect dragons to be roleplayed canonically in public. Any complaints about a dragon may be taken to the Weyrleaders.
Riders are expected to be IC in public most of the time as well, and aware that new players tend to 'take their standard' from the visible rider population.
Riders are encouraged to roleplay and to run tinyplots, following the guidelines in 'news tinyplots,' but they are not obligated to, and are not expected to 'provide entertainment' for anyone but themselves.
Riders are just as autonomous in their character decisions as anyone else, however, their dragon and use DTU are privileges. Inappropriate discussions over the DTUs may result in a DTU being gagged, and consistent abuse of the DTUs may result in a DTU removal. Truly excessively disruptive behaviour may result in a dragon being removed from the DTU system and banned from Igen Weyr.
PREGNANCY
Riders who are pregnant CAN fly Thread, with a caveat. Pregnant riders should not fly between during their pregnancy. Thus, the moment a rider knows she is pregnant, she is assigned to the Queens Wing for the duration of her pregnancy, since they fly *between* less often. She will drill with the Queens Wing, fly thread with them, and is excused from sweeps. If the rider is a wingleader, she is permitted to supervise drills with her wing, however her drills in the Queens Wing takes precedence. This is what Wingseconds are for. All other duties are approved on a case by case basis with both the healers and wingleaders.
In the end, it is the healer who makes the call, some time in the third trimester, as to when the rider can no longer fly thread. At that point, she is grounded until the healers clear her, at minimum one IC month after the birth.
WATCHRIDING
Only the major holds and crafthalls have posted watchriders 24/7. The majority of Watchriders are riders who are to old or incapable of flying thread or riders recovering from injury. There are always a few regular, healthy riders who get stuck out there. The watchrider posted to Igen Weyr can be anyone in the weyr.
Watchriders pretty much sit on the Fire Heights or Star Stones for six to eight hours and watch. It's boring, mind numbing work, the monotony of this is broken only by visitors. This duty is rather unpopular by the young and active, though people who like a break now and then have been known to request a turn at the duty.
