Dragons can fly soon after Hatching, but Weyrlingmasters tend to err on the side of caution, monitoring the development of their wing musculature, which must be developed carefully and slowly to last through the rigours of Fall. No weyrling is to, or would dare, fly on their dragon earlier than the Weyrlingmaster allows out of fear of doing permanent damage to their lifemate, and such a flight may only take place once the flying straps are completed to the Weyrlingmaster's satisfaction. Between training takes place after the dragons have aged one Turn, and is extremely dangerous -- typically one or two pairs in each class do not return from their first attempt.
