This period of time is designed to protect you and your young dragon partner from harm as well as to build the discipline and skills that will keep you alive in Threadfall and Pern Thread-free. ICly it is a very serious time, but still full of joy, however.

An upset weyrling dragon can have the entire Weyr in an uproar. Strong emotions felt by the rider can upset a weyrling dragon. Therefore, weyrling riders are to refrain from certain experiences that have tended to overwhelm a young dragon: drinking (which also impairs your judgement, on which your dragon depends), sex, fighting, etc.

You must be available to your dragon at all times so you are Weyr-bound. You will spend a lot of time in the barracks but you are by no means confined there and are welcome in the LC and other areas of the Weyr.
